„Von etwas anderem“ handelt dieser Film, für den Věra Chytilová 1963 den Hauptpreis der Mannheimer Filmfestspiele erhielt. Chytilová präsentiert nicht das eine „role model“, etwa das der Neuen Frau, das der Sozialismus propagiert. Vielmehr handelt ihr Film von zwei so gleichwertigen wie verschiedenen Frauenleben, die schon deswegen nicht miteinander zu vergleichen sind, weil jede in den Parametern einer anderen filmischen Gattung auf der Leinwand erscheint. Fiktiv sind die Hausfrau Věra sowie ihr Ehemann, kleiner Sohn und Geliebter. Real ist die für die Weltmeisterschaft 1962 in Prag trainierende Spitzensportlerin Eva Bosáková, von der der Dokumentarfilm Zeugnis ablegt. In der parallelen Montage dieser beiden Filme manifestiert sich etwas Neues, die radikale Ablehnung einer Entscheidung.
Das Unbehagen an den Lebensumständen und die Tatsache, dass die beiden Frauen nichts wirklich daran verändern, scheint das einzige zu sein, das die beiden Figuren miteinander verbindet. Die Turnerin nimmt für den Erfolg endlose Quälereien und den weitgehenden Verzicht auf ein Privatleben in Kauf. Věra gelingt es nicht, aus ihrem Leben voller Routine und ohne Liebe auszubrechen. Nur im Detail der Montage entsteht manchmal eine produktive Gemeinsamkeit. (sasch)

“O něčem jiném” for which Věra Chytilová was awarded the main prize at the 1963 Mannheim Filmfestspiele, is about a woman who does not live up to the idea of New Women as role models according to the Socialist system of the day. On the contrary, the film presents viewers with two women who lead diametrically opposed lives . Their lives can not, in fact, be compared as they were captured using very different techniques. The housewife, Věra, is a fictional character . So are the characters of her husband, young son and lover. Eva Bosáková, however, is a real person, a star sportswoman in Prague to train for the World Championship in 1962, documented in a documentary manner. The parallel montage of both sets of footage results in something new, a radical rejection of a decision.
Unease about the circumstances in which each lives as well as the fact that neither woman is responsible for any semblance of change appears to be the only thing that connects the two characters. The gymnast is willing to go through endless torture and eschews any manner of private life for the sake of her discipline. Věra doesn't succeed in breaking out of her life filled with routine but without love. It is only in details in the montage that similarities between the two become evident.
